Swimming is part of the National Curriculum. At Holy Cross, we believe it is vitally important that children learn to swim, and to keep safe in and around water.
Currently, all children in Key Stage 2 attend swimming lessons for a 2-week block each year at Europa Pools, Birkenhead.
Lessons are taught by professional swimming instructors and by our own teachers, who have completed a qualification in teaching swimming.
Curriculum aims - by the end of Key Stage 2, children should be able to:
  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
